My Style

I specialize in children and family portraits, and childhood event photography (births, hospital homecomings, family gatherings, birthday parties).

My tagline is "your life. . .illustrated."  And I mean it.  I am showing up to take pictures of you and your family, tantrums and mismatched shoes, giggles and funny face contests.   It is my job to make your kids want to smile, so please don't reprimand them for not smiling or not listening to me.  I love a challenge and each child has their own individual personality and comfort zone.  I want to capture who they are, not who someone else tells them to be, and some times that is pensive and serious and not bubbly and light.  We will try to pick out a time of day and setting that will bring out the fun loving side of your child, but from there we are all just along for the ride, to watch the story unfold.

You need to be comfortable with my style, the lifestyle, candid style. I am not a posed studio, "glam" photographer.  I will not smooth out your wrinkles and make you look like someone else.  I do not pose my subjects, I give direction like "how about we all come over here, looking towards this direction at that silly tree" but you will never hear me ask you to tilt your heads till they are touching.  That's just wrong.  Any minor adjustments will be due to lighting, not for a perfect pyramid composition of people.

I want to capture the love, the joy, the silliness of your family.  Messy and wonderful, together.  Your life. . .illustrated.

For sessions of newborns and pre-crawling babies I do have a more studio like setting that can be brought to your home.  I have black and white backdrops and several textured blankets to use in combination with your own items.  I also have a specially designed photographer's newborn bean bag.  It is enormous and is wonderful for newborn sessions.  I still use natural lighting with these sessions, and prefer to reflect supplemental lighting over the use of flashes if possible.

I do not do wedding photography because photography has specialties just like any other field, you go to a pediatrician for your kids doctor, a child/family photographer for their portraits. I know nothing of wedding photography.

I love to make cards and do graphic work (collages, photo books, etc.). I work exclusively with my own photos, because I took them and I usually give myself permission to use them. I offer these custom projects only to my clients.
